Community Relations
Bob
and Laurie of Casa de Campo Alpaca Ranch and an increasing number
of students from Tarleton State University have developed a mutually
beneficial learning opportunity and friendship. Several TSU students
majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry have developed
great interests in alpacas and are currently completing research
studies and papers on varied alpaca related subjects including genetics,
preventive medical practices, and ranch business development with
the assistance of Casa de Campo Alpaca Ranch and its herd. In turn,
Casa de Campo Alpaca Ranch is benefiting from the students' interests
in the alpacas by receiving hands-on assistance in medical applications,
farm maintenance, and herd care.
Casa de Campo Alpaca Ranch is also open to surrounding school districts
for elementary, middle, high school, and FFA field trips. Whenever
a school or student group indicates they would like to visit the
ranch, we put our best "PR" alpaca feet forward and the
kids love to touch, feed, and wash bellies. It's such a joy to see
the children's reactions to our beautiful animals and we are sometimes
amazed at the depth of interest and questions that come from these
kids. Parents, of course, are always welcome.
